One of the pieces for my portfolio.

I had a pre-portfolio review several days ago and surprisingly it went well. WHEW. I was soooo nervous cause the students there were SOOO high-level, and made my work look like king of crap.
I threw in this piece because I thought he was going to pick on my anime-esque style, but surprisingly he didn't. I had a portfolio review long time ago and that person really shattered my heart. She went on and on about how my style was too "anime" and that I sucked. I guess it was a good experience in a way, but it really lowered my self-confidence. Thanks lady.

I need a therapist.

You know, what teachers fail to realize is that anime has been around for 50 plus years. One teacher said it was a fad. Dumb bitch. Anyway, whats funny is how you see more anime than crappy ass total drama island shit. BTW their art fartsy asses are the ones in a box. Artists are influenced by many things. There is a artist by the name of Lionel Richland who said: "DRAW FOR YOU, NOT OTHERS!" I live by that qoute on a daily basis and aim to destroy motherfuckers who pride themselves on ignorance and insensitivity. PLUS lets not mention they are talking 90% bull and 10% help. SO fuck them self absorbed close minded brown nosers. Is that school Art Institute by any chance? If it is just hope its not the one in Atlanta Ga. They said the same shit and i laffed at em hard.

Do you, and screw them, cause in the in the you getting yours.

This is very beautiful. I love the details on the eyes. It caught my attention :iconiloveyouplz:

I had a teacher that told me that I shouldn't do anime. She said my artwork wasn't very good. It made me feel depressed. :( One of my closest friend's drawings are really good and her style is anime too. I thought that it wasn't fair for her to draw anime and not me or my other friends.
Art isn't about how good you are it's about how you express yourself. Like ~Xerina said: 'Cause at the end, your oppinion is more important, and if you love your works, someone is gonna love it too.

Beautiful work - great detail work on a very realistic portrait. Loving the graphic treatment too! I'm at architecture school and critics tend to say different things. It's important to remember that behind all the theory and precedents people love to quote lies personal preference. Therefore I believe that as long as you're doing what you want that's all the justification you need. Best of luck nonetheless!

I had a teacher like that too...he said"This is not art.It's generic and it's all commercial.Modern art is the way to go blahblahblah."

reminds me of the critique we had in our drawing class after we finished our still life drawing. our professor said something like "these people outlined their objects, probably because they've been used to drawing stuff like anime in high school"

I was thinking "whaaaat. not everyone who draws anime will draw that way for realistic objects :["

We've all had that kind of experience D: I understand you. I had lots of teachers that said that anime sucked. And when I started to have a different style other teacher told me that I was nothing D: 'cause I wasn't anime, nor american comic style. It was an in between. So yeah, don't let that stuff get you, there will always be people triying to bring you down, but as long you know that you are doing your best and you are proud of your work, that's all that matter.
